Protecting Missouri Innovators from AI Overreach and the Accountability Void

Open Letter to Senator Josh Hawley

Subject: Protecting Missouri Innovators from AI Overreach and the Accountability Void

Dear Senator Hawley,

As an independent Missouri creator building original brands and digital assets, I am running headfirst into a modern technological roadblock that demands real legislative attention: the total lack of accountability for automated artificial intelligence and search algorithms.

When I attempt to establish clean visibility for my brand (Prozitude), Google's automated search systems override the unique terminology, substituting it with completely unrelated terms and redirecting traffic away from independent work. When I try to fix these automated errors, I hit an impenetrable wall:

  • The Accountability Void: AI systems and search giants operate with total immunity and zero direct accountability, leaving citizens to absorb the reputational and economic damage while completely walled off from human customer service.
  • The Compliance Burden: Citizens are left to navigate complex reporting loops, opaque automated content policies, and rigid compliance requirements just to correct systemic algorithmic errors they did not create.
  • The Resource Drain: Independent business owners are forced to exhaust their own personal and financial resources trying to fix automated platform actions that happen without warning or repercussion.

I want to partner with you to help navigate this from Missouri and chart a path forward that doesn't drain an individual's resources. We need frameworks that ensure tech platforms cannot grant themselves total immunity while damaging local enterprises. Let’s work together to establish reasonable pathways for human accountability, ensuring Missouri citizens have a voice and a defense against unchecked algorithmic authority.

Sincerely,

Jason Ozenkoski (Oz)
